Odylique Organic Make Up Review

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome back! And welcome if You are new here xoxo

Odylique Organic Make Up Review
Odylique Organic Make Up Review

Who wants to hear about organic make up? I thought so – see my review of Odylique concealers, lipsticks and lip liner below ?

Let’s look at the brand as a whole? Let me cut to the chase and tell you upfront, I love everything about it, from the brands story, ethos, the ingredients list to the fact that they still hand make the products after 30 yrs! Doesn’t all that make your heart sing?

The company has started 30 years ago – long before the natural and organic was a trend; and get this – they still hand make their products by hand! The founder, Margaret began making skincare from natural ingredients over 30 years ago. ‘Conventional’ cosmetics didn’t suit her allergy-prone skin and she was desperate to find a remedy for her family’s eczema problems. She felt there must be a healthier, more effective way to make skin care than using petroleum and artificial additives. So, armed with qualifications in herbal medicine and aromatherapy, and a passion for the genius of nature, she set about creating truly effective formulations, based only on organic herbs, plant oils and natural active ingredients that were compatible with the most sensitive skin. The result was Essential Care (renamed Odylique – which means ‘power of nature’) that she launched as a company with her daughter Abi and husband Colin in 2003. They are still a family-owned company run by Abi and Margaret and supported by a wonderful team. Odylique, formulated by Margaret, is hand-made in their Suffolk workshop – not outsourced to a factory. This is quite unusual in skincare manufacturing and it ensures you the highest level of product quality and freshness.

Their philosophy is simple: All ingredients must have therapeutic value, and the product must be a joy to use. This means use of actives – herbs and essential oils – in therapeutic concentrations for optimum benefit. Plant oils must be virgin and cold-pressed so that they have their full antioxidant vitamin-content intact, so as to actively nourish the skin and protect it from premature ageing.

Odylique products are free from synthetic chemicals and are all certified to strict Soil Association organic standards. They were one of the first companies to create certified organic cosmetics and follow the precautionary principle to formulate the purest cosmetics possible.

They avoid all synthetic chemical irritants and possible allergens like artificial fragrance. In addition, Odylique exclude lanolin, wheat, dairy and soya derivatives, salicylic acid, peanut oil, common allergen tree nut oils, and more. If that does not make your heart sing, I don’t know what will! I mean, how many times we have witnessed a company being born & selling out to Unilever or some other a few years later? Not here!

Ok, let’s see for the products? I got to review two lipstick in Peach Melba 19* & Rose Parfait 10*, Lip Liner in Rose* and two mineral concealers in Light* and Medium*, so now that I got the chance to use them for a couple of weeks now, I am ready to review them.

Lipsticks in Rose Parfait 10* & Peach Melba 19*

As you can see, these lipsticks are made from 100% natural ingredients (and 86% certified organic ingredients you people!) – I love the fact that they include “plain English” after the Latin in the ingredients list. They are also certified organic by Soil Association, the most stringent of certification bodies, so you can rest assured you are getting the best from the best. They are pigmented enough, last a few hours and are moisturizing. If I were to find anything negative about them, I would love to see the names of the lipsticks on the tubes, not only the numbers – because I forget and have to look them up every time someone asks about my lipstick. Hey, I am five minutes to forty, it happens 🙂

Again, all natural ingredients, very high percentage of organic ones. Lovely colour, works very well at keeping the lipstick in check, but there’s a learning curve to this and I  wanted to let you know about it, especially if you are just switching from conventional products. This lip liner needs warming up first, either by holding a tip in between your fingers or with a blast of hot air from hair dryer for example – this is needed to soften the otherwise hard formula. If you used it straight up, you might find it too hard and dragging the skin a bit. Bear in mind I live in the ever cool Ireland, you might not need to do this if You live in hot climate?

Concealers in Light* & Medium*

I love them! Really natural, with minimum 76% organic ingredients, no less. The pigmentation is good, solid medium coverage and they do last for half a day at least. Might have some minor flaws in appearance due to being handmade, mine came with some tiny bumps all over, so I emailed them to ask and was assured there’s nothing to worry about. It is a drier formula, so I like to apply with a brush or a finger in patting motions, but you do you boo, we all have different application techniques. I am in between of shades of Light and Medium, but that is OK with me, I am the same in most brands  have tried to date. I just blend them together for now, and as I am getting paler and paler by the day, soon enough I will be able to get away with only light in the winter time.

INGREDIENTS: COCOS NUCIFERA OIL*, RICINIS COMMUNIS OIL*, CERA ALBA*, OLEA EUROPAEA OIL*, ZINC OXIDE, TAPIOCA STARCH*, CANDELILLA CERA*, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS SEED CERA, HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES FRUIT EXTRACT*, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT*, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS EXTRACT*. May contain +/- CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 77891, CI 77007, mica, silica *Organically grown/produced (minimum 76%).
